Building the hierarchy

To build the process hierarchy, you normally create as many elements in the sublevel as are to be linked from the process map.

You build the hierarchy from the top down: for each structure element, you create a sublevel with as many elements as the associated Process Map is to link. Only then do you assign their process maps to the levels and link the map’s area elements.

Prerequisites

You are a BPM Manager.

You are on the Manage Process Space page in the Process Hierarchy tab.

Context

The process hierarchy can consist of several levels. In the sublevel of a structure element, you normally create as many elements as are to be linked from the Process Map above it.

For better orientation, the names of the elements should largely match the names in the respective Process Map.

How to proceed

  1. To add an element on the next sublevel of the process hierarchy, navigate to the structure element and click ⋮ Add New Sublevel.

The dialog of the same name appears.

  2. Enter the name and a description of the element and click Create.

The element is displayed in the process hierarchy and marked as “New”.

  3. To add further elements, repeat the steps.

Functions for elements and processes

The following functions are available for an element:

  • Show Diagram (only if a process map exists)

Displays the process map in a dialog.

  • Add New Sublevel

Creates a new element on the sublevel.

  • Delete Level

Deletes the element. The root element cannot be deleted.

  • Go to Process Map

Switches to the process map. If none exists yet, it can be imported or created.

  • Manage Level

Allows you to edit and translate the name and description of the element, as well as to define it as the entry point into the process hierarchy for specific organizational units, organizational roles, groups or individual users.

The following functions are available for a process:

  • Show Diagram

Displays the process diagram in a dialog. For processes without a diagram, only a start event appears.

  • Remove Process

Removes the process from the process hierarchy. The process is available for reassignment.

  • Go to Process

    Switches to the process page.

In addition, elements can be moved by drag and drop to change the structure of the process hierarchy — see Changing the hierarchy.
