Imported processes initially end up outside the process hierarchy: until you assign them to a hierarchy element, they remain on the right in the **Search unassigned processes** list. They only appear in the linking dialog of a process map once you switch off the **Current Level Only** filter there. Processes are assigned by drag and drop; for assigning many processes at once, there is a separate action, see [Assigning Multiple Processes](/en/processes/manage-processes/assign-processes-to-process-map).

## Prerequisites [#prerequisites]

You are a **BPM Manager**.

## Context [#context]

The hierarchy elements of the process map levels are managed on the **Process Hierarchy** tab of the **Manage Process Space** page. Each hierarchy element groups either further hierarchy elements or, on the lowest level, the processes.

Assign imported processes to a hierarchy element. The linking dialog on the process map of that element then offers them to you directly.

The list of hierarchy elements, indented by level, and the processes already assigned are located on the left-hand side.

The processes not yet assigned are listed on the right-hand side.

Both lists are sorted alphabetically automatically.

## How to proceed [#how-to-proceed]

1. In the main menu, select **Settings** and then **Manage Process Space**.

The page for managing the process space appears with the **Process Hierarchy** tab.
2. Switch on **Show processes**.

The **Search unassigned processes** list appears on the right.
3. To assign a process to a hierarchy element, drag and drop the process onto the hierarchy element.

The process is placed under the hierarchy element.
4. To assign further processes, repeat step 3.
5. To confirm the changes to the process hierarchy, click **Save**.
