You can explicitly assign organizational units and organizational roles to each other. It is the **same** link, no matter which side you create it from: you can assign roles to an organizational unit or units to an organizational role — the result is the same.

## Prerequisites [#prerequisites]

You meet the prerequisites described in [Editing Units and Roles](/en/organization/edit-units-and-roles).

You are on the **Organization** page.

## Context [#context]

There are two kinds of links. You define the explicit one here, independently of the assigned users. An implicit one arises on its own as soon as a user is assigned to both the role and the unit. Only explicit links carry the link icon.

## How to proceed [#how-to-proceed]

1. In the organizational structure, click the organizational unit **or**, in the **Organizational Roles** section, click the role.

The page of the organizational unit or the organizational role appears on the right.
2. Next to the **Linked Organizational Roles** or **Linked Organizational Units** section heading, click the edit icon.

The **Link to Organizational Roles** or **Link to Organizational Units** dialog appears.
3. To select an entry, tick its selection box.
4. To confirm the changes, click **Apply Selection**.

The explicitly linked entries are marked with a link icon.
