Here responsibility passes **to the next** area of responsibility; handing over **within** your own area of responsibility is described in [Passing on responsibility](/en/jobs/assigning-jobs/pass-on-responsibility).

## Prerequisites [#prerequisites]

The next job step is in a different area of responsibility (lane) and is marked with an arrow icon.

## Context [#context]

You select the job step in order to hand it over to an area of responsibility. This is also necessary if you are assigned to the next area of responsibility as well.

## How to proceed [#how-to-proceed]

1. To hand over the job step, click the \<Job Step\> in the job's checklist.

The **Hand over to '\<Area of Responsibility\>'** dialog appears. It lists the possible responsible persons for the next section.

2. Select the check box for the entries the job step is to be handed over to.

The **Hand Over** button becomes available.

3. Click **Hand Over**.

The job step is handed over to the selected employees as a task.

The handover is recorded in the job log (\<User\> has handed over the job to '\<Area of Responsibility\>').

The icon of the responsible person or persons is displayed at the job step in the graphical view.
