A new element is always created as a **draft** first and is only visible to everyone once it has been published. If you want to take over an existing inventory instead of creating element by element, use [Importing Architecture Elements from ArchiMate® XML](/en/architecture/import-archimate-xml).

## Prerequisites [#prerequisites]

You are a **BPM Manager** or **Designer**.

## How to proceed [#how-to-proceed]

1. Select **Architecture**.
2. Select the **Drafts** tab.
3. Select **+** (**Create New Architecture Element**).

The **Create New Architecture Element** dialog opens.
4. Enter the name of the architecture element.
5. Select the type of the architecture element. The types available for selection are those that are enabled in your Process Space, grouped by ArchiMate layer. (For more on types, see: [Defining Architecture Settings](/en/architecture/architecture-settings))
6. \[Optional\] Enter a description. The editor offers you bold, italic, underline, links, alignment and bullet lists.
7. Select **Create** or **Create & New**.

### Create [#create]

If you select **Create**, a draft is created and the draft window opens. In the draft window, you can add further responsible persons, properties and linked architecture elements to the architecture element. You can then publish the architecture element. The architecture element is then displayed under **Architecture** on the **Published** tab. If you do not publish the architecture element, it is displayed under **Architecture** on the **Drafts** tab.

**Note**: **No responsible person** is set when the element is created. Add one in the draft — otherwise the element appears in the **Architecture Elements Without Responsible Persons** evaluation.

**Result**: Select **Publish** in the header of the draft. If a mandatory property is empty, Bpanda reports **Required Property Values Missing** and names them; add the values and publish again.

### Create & New [#create-new]

If you select **Create & New**, the architecture element is created directly as a draft. The draft window does not open. The architecture element is then displayed directly under **Architecture** on the **Drafts** tab.

## The second way: via the sidebar [#the-second-way-via-the-sidebar]

You can also create an architecture element outside the architecture area: via **Create** > **Architecture** in the sidebar. The dialog is the same and creates **one** element — just like the other entry points via **Create**.

**Create & New** is only available via **+** on the **Drafts** tab. Take this route if you want to create several elements one after another.

## Publishing several drafts at once [#publishing-several-drafts-at-once]

On the **Drafts** tab, the ⋮ **three-dot menu** contains the **Publish All Drafts** entry. The drafts that remain after your current filter settings are published.

**Business processes are excluded from this.** They are published via the release process on the process page or via **Manage Processes**.

After the run, **Publishing Completed** shows you what was published and what was not.
